Must see in Goa

Anjuna beach
Anjuna beach is one of the highly celebrated beaches of Goa. It lies 8 km to the west of Mapusa. There are more lovely beaches in Goa like Baga beach, Dona Paula beach, Colva beach, Majorda beach and Agonda beach that you should explore during your Goa tour.

Anjuna Flea Market
This is the place you need to be on Wednesdays. Anjuna is a beach town situated in North Goa. It became the hide-out of western hippies who arrived here in early 1960s. As their wallets went empty but eager to stay here for longer, these hippies sold off their belongings, from guitars, jewelry to jeans, thus began the infamous Anjuna flea market. What started as an open-air hippie exchange has now become favorite of backpackers and other tourists. Situated on the sandy stretch overlooking the Arabian Sea, Anjuna flea market has its own charm and unique style.

Panaji (Panjim)
Panaji, the “Land that never floods” and the capital city of Goa is situated on the left bank of Mandovi river. It is famous for red roofed houses built in Latin architecture style, avenues lined with Gulmohar & acacia trees and lush green gardens, interesting buildings with whimsical balconies, bleached clean churches built in Baroque style and riverside promenade that provide Panaji a Portuguese ambience.

Other attractions of Goa are St. Cathedral Church, Besilica of Bom Jesus, Carambolin Lake, Dudhsagar waterfalls, Aguda fort and Mangeshi temple. Curios to shop in Goa.

You can shop for designer clothes, handicrafts, hand painted ceramics and Azulejos (tin-glazed, ceramic tile work in Portuguese or Spanish styles), wood carvings, jewelry, carpets, leather items etc. in various markets of Goa.

Delicacies to enjoy in Goa
Popular dishes of Goa are flavored prawn fish curry with rice, pork vindaloo, vinhdalho sauce (seasoned with wine, vinegar and garlic), xacuti sauce, rice, bread and vegetarian foods.

Brief History
The beach capital of India, Goa has extravagant history that dates back to 3rd century BC, when it was part of Mauryan Empire. Earlier name of Goa was Konkan and its locals used to speak Konakani language. Goa was part of Mogul Empire and later Dutch, English, French and Portuguese struggled for its succession. Finally Portuguese succeeded in conquering Goa in 1510 and ruled over it for next 4 centuries. It became independent in 1961 and was declared a state of India in 1987. Goa has a splendid historical legacy and modern day Goa is a unique amalgamation of luxurious traditions and modernity.
