South India Cultural Tour

Day 01: Arrival at Chennai

On the first day of your South India Cultural Tour, representatives of Top India Tourism will warmly welcome you on your arrival at Chennai International Airport in Tamil Nadu. You will be provided assistance in a comfortable hotel in the city center. Rest of the day will be at your leisure. Enjoy your luscious dinner in your hotel.

Day 02: Chennai-Mahabalipuram-Kanchipuram - Madurai

This day we will pay visit to the temple towns of Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram and visit the following attractions there:-

Mahabalipuram:

Mahabalipuram Beach : The 20 km long beach is located on the shore of Bay of Bengal and is a very popular hub of tourists.

Arjuna’s Penance : The 30 m long and 9 m high relief was carved in 7th century AD and figures Arjuna from Mahabharata epic.

Panch Rathas : These five rock cut chariots are named after five Pandavas from Mahabharata epic.

Tiger’s Cave : There is a shrine dedicated to goddess Durga in a rock cut temple here.

0ther attractions of Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram) are : Ganesh Rath Temple, Thirukalukundram, Varaha Cave Temple and Dakshiinachitra.

Kanchipuram:

Sri Kailasanathar Temple : This highly revered Shiva temple is surrounded by 58 smaller shrines.

Sri Kamamshi Amman Temple : The temple has a gold plated Vimanam and is dedicated to goddess Durga, who is a form of goddess Parvati.

Sri Vakunda Perumal Temple : The Vishnu temple has intricately carved inner walls and lion shaped pillars.

Vedantangal Bird Sanctuary: You can see a variety of birds here and nests built on partially submerged tree branches.

Other attractions of Kanchipuram include : Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Jain Temples, Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple and Arignar All Illam.

We will leave for Madurai after our sightseeing. Overnight stay will be in a hotel in the temple town of Madurai.

Day 03: Chennai-Madurai (By flight) – Periyar

On the third day of our South India Cultural tour, we will visit the following prime attractions of Madurai:

Meenakshi Temple : The ancient temple is prime draw for tourists to the city and is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Meenakshi.

Thirumalai Nayak Palace : The beautiful 16th century palace is designed in Indo-Sarcenic architectural style.

Alagar Koil : The temple is located on a hilltop and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

St. Mary’s Cathedral Church : It is one of the most revered churches of Madurai and is situated 2 km from the railway station.

Other attractions of Madurai include : Pazhamudir Solai, Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam, Kazimar Big Mosque and Maqbara, and Koodal Azhagar Temple.

Overnight stay will be in Madurai.

Day 04: Madurai-Periyar (128 km / 03 hrs)

We will leave for Periyar soon after our breakfast and visit its following attractions:

Periyar Lake : The beautiful lake is a favorite destination of the nature lovers, honeymooners and avid tourists.

Periyar National Park : The national park is spread over an area of 777 sq km and is home to a large variety of animal, bird and plant species. Nilgiri Tahr and Indian Tiger are its prime attractions.

Vandanmedu : It is the world’s largest cardamom auction center.

Murikkady : The area is known for its vast expanses of aromatic spices.

Other attractions of Periyar are : Kadathanadan Kalari Center, Mangladevi Temple,Vandiperiyar and Periyar Tiger Trail.

Overnight stay will be in a jungle resort in Periyar.

Day 05: Periyar-Kumarakom (115 km / 03 hrs)

We will see the following attractions of Kumarakom in Kerala on the fifth day of our South India Cultural Tour:

Vembanad Lake : The beautiful lake is the center of water carnivals and a favorite picnic destination

Backwater Cruise : Pleasure houseboat ride in Kumarakom backwaters would provide you a refreshing feel.

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary : It is a birdwatcher’s paradise and you can see various exotic species of birds here.

Kumarakom Beach : The lovely beach destination is a favorite hangout for tourists and locals.

Other attractions of Kumarakom include : Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls, Bay Island Driftwood Museum, Pathiramanal and Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple.

Overnight stay will be on a houseboat in Kumarakom backwaters.

Day 06: Kumarakom –Kochi

We shall see the following attractions of port city of Kochi in Kerala this day:

Fort Kochi : You can have a panoramic view of the beaches and Chinese Fishing Nets from its top.

Bolghatty Palace : The beautiful palace was built by Dutch traders in 1744 AD.

Kochi Beach : The beautiful beach is situated 12 km from the city center and is thronged by merry makers throughout the year.

Willingdon Island : The artificial island has several attractions for tourists.

Other attractions of Kochi are : Mattancherry Palace, St. Francis Church, Cherai Beach and Jewish Synagogue.

Overnight stay will be in a resort at Kochi.

Day 07: Kochi-Departure

This will be the last day of your South India Cultural Tour. Our representatives will drive you to Kochi International Airport from where you will be boarded on the flight back to your home.
